Building the Electron Economy is a project to create awareness among citizens, policy makers, and technical professionals about the need for a systemic approach to re-engineering our energy infrastructure. This project will highlight a ’12-step’ plan, starting with the stretch goal of no-petroleum use in 2030, and simultaneously developing eleven other ‘subsystems’ in the new energy infrastructure. This white paper serves both as a roadmap and a playbook for transformative change; it includes spreadsheets for understanding how technology competency and buildout must occur to reach the stretch goal. Additionally, these spreadsheets show how quickly these technologies will begin to offset higher energy costs and reasonable payback periods.

Readers of this white paper will also understand what an integrated energy system is, and the importance of a systemic approach to achieve transformative change. Each section of the white paper will be linked to references to aid in learning the foundation and importance of each technology.
